Recently, I shared “One Crazy Thing I Do to Save Money on Groceries.” Since then, a few people have asked me if the slightly dramatic experience is really worth it in the savings. Well, instead of blabbing my opinion, I decided to give you the results and let you decide.
I know that most people don’t have the opportunity to save in this specific way. However, there are deals and steals all around you, and you just have to look for them! My husband and I found out about the Sav-Mor sidewalk sales from a friend by word of mouth. If you want to save money in your neck of the woods, then you need to ask your friends where they shop! (Ask your smart friends that are wise with money.)
So, the following list is everything we got in two boxes at the Sav-Mor sale. Just to be clear, I will share a price for each item to the best of my ability as it is listed on the websites of major grocery stores. The total price for the two boxes was $16. Although some things are close to expiration, other things are on sale because the packaging was dented, old, or opened.

$461.52!!! That’s crazy! Now, I realize that I wouldn’t have necessarily bought all of these items if I were shopping in the store. However, I still would have bought breakfast bars, oatmeal, granola, juice, pancake mix, crackers, veggies, pasta, chocolate, and rice. Even with coupons, I easily would have spent $200-$250 for the items that I would have purchased.
The beautiful thing about this is that I was able to get about $200 worth of products that I wouldn’t have let myself buy, but thoroughly enjoy. Typically, I say no to quinoa, expensive breakfast bars, special snacks, and prepared sauces. Because of this sale, I could have those things without spending more than a few cents each. Nice!
Even though this was an exceptionally good haul, I will say that I typically average about $300 worth of product for $16. I even get to bake with intense dark chocolate bars, so that’s pretty awesome!
You have to be consistently looking for ways to save money, and you can do this without obsessing or spending hours a week hunting down deals. Make it a side hobby, and it will yield great results!
Finding great ways to save money might mean that you have to be creative, ask around, and even get a little crazy. If my methods are crazy to you, but I’m saving hundreds of dollars on grocery items, I’m okay with being crazy. So think outside the box, an you enjoy great savings!
